Ads Make Sense?

So I'm thinking of trying out Google's AdSense on my blog. Google's ad bot will scan my posts and put ads in my sidebar based on certain words found in my blog, and if anyone clicks on one of the ads, I could get paid.

So, would this make me a disgusting whore? Or just a mildly annoying whore?

It wouldn't disgust or annoy me - but then I NEVER click on ads!!

It would neither disgust me nor annoy me. However, it would make me feel sorry for you having wasted your time. I tried Google Ads for about 8 months. Never saw one penny. Not one. No one clicks on them.

Hope it's different for you.

Yeah, I'm with wordnerd. It would make you a no-richer-now-than-you-were-then whore.

You only get about $0.04 for every ad clicked on from your page.

scarletvirago - that's not entirely true, I've rec'd hits that landed me a cool buck. 1 hit, $1, a few that were more than that too. It fluctuates based on how the advertisers rates are set.

IMOHO, there are some that may say it's selling out, however, I view it differently. Personally, I'm trying to provide a service helping non-technical people work with technology via some of my posts, and that sometimes takes many hours to do. The alternative for me is to pound the pavement looking to build web sites, and quite honestly, there is a huge divide out there between what people think it costs and what it really costs to do a web site. In other words, it has become quite frustrating for some web heads in the trenches who want to go it alone and not work for the man anymore.

My goal with Ads? Provide value to visitors via helpful posts, and maybe, with enough luck, be able to do that full time by way of ad revenue, or through products and services from my own repertoire.

Bottom line, if you have traffic coming through, and blogging is maybe a bit more than just a thing you do now and then, you are leaving money on the table. IMOHO of course.

And if a blog owner is providing a good service to me, I'll check out their sponsors and check one out as a thank you.

I'm still doing what I'll be doing anyway, why not allow yourself the ability to earn a few extra bucks? Set it and forget it, check it next year, or when you get a check in the mail.

wow...that was longer than I really expected. Guess you got me with this one...

either way your blog is cool. :)
